I am behind in my blogging about football games, I will catch all the games with pictures soon. But tonight I am just taking in the moment! The Declo Hornet football team has gone undefeated (11-0) on the reason and through the playoffs. Tomorrow the Declo Hornet football team will play the Parma Panthers (also undefeated) for the State Championship! Our boys have worked so hard since last year's championship game on 11/20/08 and here we are again. I believe they are better prepared than last year, I believe they want it more this year!
Tonight was the last night I will very wash the football uniform the night before the big game. Tonight is the last night Logan will ever be uptight as he prepares to play the in a football game. Tomorrow will be the last time Logan and Grandpie have their pregame talk (they talk by phone before everygame). Football is one of Logan's biggest loves in life and his dream since playing football the his 1st year in 7th grade was to win a State Championship! He has worked long and hard towards this dream, he is part of an amazing team and win or lose - the whole Declo Hornet football team are Champions and they are amazing.
Logan tomorrow night will be the last time we watch you play football as a Declo Hornet. I am so proud of you and as your facebook status says tonight "Leave it all on the field" son!!!
Chancey tomorrow is the last time you will board the bus with your brother, as a stat girl for the Declo Hornet football team. I am sure you will be the stat girl again, but it will be sad to see you down on the sidelines and not have Logan on the field! After tomorrow it's all about you again girl. Yes basketball has started. We couldn't be prouder of Chancey - she made the JV basketball team as a freshman and during their first game this past Tuesday, she had 8 points all from the foul line. Enjoy tomorrow with your brother and the whole football team - we are so proud that you too are an amazing Declo Hornet!!!
Everything is in place the team has practiced, watched film and had dinner together. Keegan pushed to get things done at school to be home and cheer on his little brother. Chancey's stat girl shirt is washed and there is no bball practice in the morning, so we can sleep in! Fence Solutions is closing at noon! The pep assembly has been prepared and the whole community is ready to go support the team. I know I will cry tomorrow - it won't matter if the boys win or lose! It will be end of an amazing journey!
Thanks for the ride son! We love you!!! Leave it all on the field!!!

Football Game 2
Declo vs. Kimberly the first home game of the season!
Kimberly kicks off to Declo, the kick goes into the end zone. Declo fields the ball at the 20 yard line, Jeremy rolls back and throws to Logan... 80 yard touchdown - 12 seconds into the game. Kimberly turns the ball over and Jeremy throws a 50 yard touchdown pass to McCoy. New Declo High School record 42 points in the 1st quarter.
There isn't a whole lot more to say about this game - the whole team played and played well. Sorry no pictures I had to record this game, as my dad was back visiting my grandmother.
Final score was Declo 62 Kimberly 7

Home Run Derby
While uploading pictures from the last couple weeks of Football, I found a few items I had forgotten to blog about. First is the home run derby which was in June. This was put on by BABA just for fun, they had a contest for all the different age groups including parents/coaches. Kory hit for our team as an adult, he got a couple over the fence when Chancey was pitching to him warming up, but didn't get any over during the actual competion (they were using a pitching machine). Chancey on the other hand started off a little slow, the girls didn't have to get it over the fence, but out to a line in the grass. Chancey ended up getting a couple to the fence and ended up winning hitting 7 out of 10 over the line.

Chancey's Bionic Thumb
OK I know it's been a while since we have done a blog update... So here it goes...
I am going to start with Chancey's Bionic Thumb (or at least that's what Kory & I call it)! One little basketball injury is now 2 surgeries and one screw later and it looks like everything is going to hold. After the surgery in December and spending 3 weeks in a cast, Chancey started Occupational Therapy at the end of January. There were a couple of spots in the scar that just keep sticking out more and the therapist thought maybe it was a stitch or two. Back to Dr. Crane we go. Sure enough it appeared that there were a couple of stitches that had come to the surface and were trying to come through Chancey's skin. The big problem was is the stitches were actually the ends of the line that Dr. Crane had run through her ligament and into the screw to hold everything together. It was finally decided that the only way to fix things was to remove the stitches, Dr. Crane felt like everything was good and the ligament would hold on it's own! So March 13th was surgery #2, Dr. Crane removed the stitches and made sure that everything looked good. 5 more stitches which came out 10 days later and 14 days after surgery #2 Chancey played in a basketball tournament in Boise. Seems the Bionic thumb is good to go, although Mom has a heart attack every time she get's fouled, falls down and etc.
This picture is the day she hurt it playing basketball in May 2008.

Chancey playing basketball
Sorry I am a little behind on my blog - Uncle Clyde made sure to let me know! So here is a little catchup. Chancey was able to get back on the basketball court on November 24th, after a month of sitting the bench letting her knee heal. She had to take it easy, but ended up with a great second half of the season averaging 12 points a game. The team ended up 2nd in their conference, they lost the championship game to Jerome (Jerome went undefeated for the year).
Chancey had parents and grandparents that held their breath a few times when she was able to start playing again, but she did great!

Hornets lose, but runner-up finish highest in school history
By Ryan HoweTimes-News writer
Declo's dream fell one point short. The unheralded Hornets, who rose up from a 3-3 midseason record to make an unprecedented and historic playoff run, were upended by Parma in overtime, 29-28 Friday night in the Class 2A state championship game at Boise State University's Bronco Stadium. Declo finished its season 8-4, but accomplished what no other team in school history had ever done by reaching the state title game. And what a dandy of a title game it was, as the Hornets took the heavily-favored Panthers (11-1) to their limit in an overtime thriller that the players, coaches and hundreds of Declo fans who made the trip will be talking about for years. "One point difference in overtime of the state championship game, how close can we be?" said Declo coach Kelly Kidd. "The older I get, the more sports don't make sense to me because somebody always has to lose. Our kids played fantastic, all of them." Senior Riley Kowitz capped a 10-play, 73-yard drive with a 2-yard touchdown with 10 minutes remaining in regulation. Quarterback Jeremy Jenkins threw to Jarad Erickson for the two-point conversion that tied the game 22-22 and forced overtime. Parma won the coin flip and elected to play defense first in OT. On fourth-and-goal, Kowitz scored from a yard out, behind the blocks of Sage Warner and Rich Mahoney. Declo chose to go for 2, rather than attempting to kick a PAT. It's an unconventional decision most of the time, but a wise one for the Declo coaching staff under the circumstances. The Panthers had already blocked two Declo kicks, plus the Hornets' starting center and wingman were on the sideline with injuries. Jenkins avoided the Panther rush, but his pass fell incomplete on the conversion try. On Parma's turn, Lance Johnson ran in from 3-yards to knot the score, and Devin Erickson kicked in the game-winning PAT."I'm disappointed that we lost the championship, but we played the hardest we could. What more can you ask?" said Declo junior Larsen Webb. "This season was definitely a success. We were the underdogs the whole season. We started at the bottom and came clear to the top." Declo overcame various bouts with adversity throughout its season. Foremost among them was an inexplicable 13-point loss to Valley that dropped Declo to 3-3 and would eventually force a three-way Kansas City playoff in which Declo missed out on the No. 1 seed by inches - a Glenns Ferry field goal barely snuck over the cross bar. But in hindsight, Kidd believes that perhaps destiny played a role in his team's season. If Declo hadn't entered the playoffs with the No. 2 seed, perhaps it never would have survived the other side of the bracket. And if the Hornets hadn't gotten a wake-up call from Valley, they never would have self-examined and become a championship-caliber team." We had a lot of ups and downs this season and once we made it to state (playoffs) we gave it our all," said senior Tucker Edgar. "It would have been nice to get the championship, but we're proud of what we did." Declo faced more adversity earlier this week when starting center and defensive tackle Drew Matsen injured his knee during practice and was hobbling the sideline Friday on crutches. But Matsen wasn't the only Hornet banged up. Jenkins had a bad wrist on his throwing hand, Tyler Briggs walked with a noticeable limp, and Tanner Field had two sprained ankles, just to name a few. "We limped in here, and the kids played spectacular. I'm so proud of them," Kidd said.Declo also overcame adversity in the first quarter when Parma punts pinned the Hornets twice inside their own 2-yard line. Declo's first scoring drive was a 99-yard masterpiece highlighted by a 55-yard run by Jenkins and capped by an 11-yard score by Briggs. Six turnovers - three by each team - blemished the second quarter, but Parma was able to convert a fake punt on fourth-and-8 into a 41-yard touchdown run by Johnson to lead 15-8 at halftime. Declo ran the ball nine straight times to open the third quarter, capped by Will Nunnelee's 16-yard TD scamper. Parma blocked the PAT to make it 15-14.The Panthers went up 22-14 when Rance Portenier threw to Randy Riley on a slant, and the 6-foot, 200-pound sophomore took it 80 yards for the score. That set up Declo's game-tying score, which led to the overtime period. The Hornets walked off the blue turf with something no other Declo team has - a state runner-up trophy. The Hornets also left with something much more valuable: a life lesson. "Anything is possible," Edgar said. "I never thought we'd get here, but it was our goal and we reached it and I'm glad to be apart of Declo history."

State Semi Final Football
GO HORNETS! Logan's football team won their quarter final game last night against West Jefferson (defending State Champs). West Jefferson had only lost one game this season until last night when the Hornets made 2! The game was held in the Mini Dome in Pocatello and it was so much fun! Logan and the whole team played a great game -the final score was Declo 34 West Jefferson 6! So now we are headed to play Nampa Christian in the Semi Finals next Saturday back in the Mini Dome! I will let everyone know the time as soon as we know for sure. Here are few pictures from the game.

Chancey's knee
Just an update on Chancey's knee injury. She has micro fractures and bone bruising in the bone at the bottom of the knee. She is actually very lucky, the doctor said most of the time with this type of injury you see a blown ACL as well. Chancey's ACL and all other tendons and ligaments looked great on the MRI. So she is on crutches for a couple of weeks and then we go back to the doctor to see where things are at. Hopefully she will be back to play basketball for the last 4 weeks of the season.

Volleyball
School has started and that means the start of fall sports! Anyone that knows our family knows we really never take a break from someone doing a sport! Chancey had volleyball tryouts during fair week and yes she made the 8th grade team! Volleyball is not her favorite sport but it gets her in shape for basketball (the favorite sport). Here are a few pictures from her first couple games, they have won 2 and lost 2!
